Heat stroke, sometimes called sunstroke, is a life threatening condition. Victims ability to sweat stops, the skin becomes hot and dry, and panting and delerium sets in. Call 911 immediately. Try to cool the person with cool water but do not give fluids. It is thought as many as 5,000 to 10,000 people die in the U.S. each year as the result of heat-induced medical problems.
