Greenland isn't very green. Around the edges, there are small habitations and some limited vegetation. But for the most part the giant island a huge glacier. In the central part, around 100 inches of snow fall per year - but melting isn't an issue since the mean annual temperature is around -20¡F. The depth of the accumulated ice sheet? Over 10,000 feet in some places.



Today's Weather Fact:

The asteroid impact which is thought to have wiped out the dinosaurs some 65 millions years ago was big. But it was nothing compared to the 100 times as massive (~ 50 km wide) space boulder that slammed into Earth 3.5 billion years ago. The debris, rich in iridium, has been found in layers splattered all around the globe. That impact didn't find much to wipe out, however, except some bacteria.
